First Love Patisserie at Gandaria City

Really cute name for a cake stall, and it really IS a cute stall. With bold black and white color selection, it is hardly to be missed.
Their specialty is layer cake. A carefully 20-something layers of thin cakes being build using flavored spreading until it can become a full regular cake. With this kind of effort, now wonder it cost quite heavy, around Rp 25.000 (around U$ 2,6) per slice.
Well, like people always says, you cannot put a price tag to an art, and it is a piece of art in my eyes.
For the flavor, it kinda remind me of cakes make by Japanese cake shop. Very light and yet full of flavor.

Really cannot wait to have this food in Bandung soon (hopefully with more affordable price ^_^).

Enjoy!

Dried Fruit Anyone?

Got this dried fruit package from one of our parents friend who just recently go to China. The fruit looked like a combination of strawberries and chili. We have not tasted it yet, but will give you the detail soon.

By looking at the picture, what do you think it is made of?

Singing in the Rain Episode II: Batagor Ihsan

After finishing my coffee in cups coffee shop, then the walking journey started. The route that I was taking is through Braga street. When I was reaching the end of Braga street near Asia Afrika street, rain started to pour.

Panicked but determined to continue walking, I decided to make a pit stop at Batagor Ihsan. This batagor vendor is unique as they serves batagor with style between the over-the-top-pricey batagor which usually forked around Rp 6.000/ pcs, with the street-vendor-you-cannot-tasted-the-fish-but-still-good kaki lima batagor which usually costed just around Rp 1.000/ pcs.

With the price of Rp 2.000/ pcs you get above the average kaki lima batagor with great taste and value for money. More importantly, I got a place for warming myself and for waiting for the rain to stop.

Enjoy!

Singing in the Rain Episode I: Cups Coffee Shop

While waiting for Alia doing her thesis interview, I am staying in ITB for doing my own research. After a while and got bored, I decided to go home.
As I prefer to do things spectacularly, I decided to go home by... walking!

The fun thing to do when you are walking is that you can see more things when you are walking. And this applies to this coffee shop that we often passed by when we are going to ITB.

The place is quite small, but have a great design, ambiance, and quite inviting. I entered the coffee shop and are quickly greeted by great coffee smell. Yum!

The coffee shop owner was still young but are passionate with their coffee shop. I really liked it, as that means their coffee will be made from their heart.

When I tasted it, it turned out great! I guess we have a new favorite coffee shop vendor to go in Bandung. Yay!

Enjoy!

Porto Restaurant, Setiabudhi Bandung

It is been a while since we tasted a great steak, especially in Bandung. So when invitation came for family gathering to celebrate our nephew's birthday, we are really excited.
The place is new for us, as we are rarely eat in Setiabudhi area, due to its traffic.

When we got there our first impression is: what a great place. Our architects instincts are suddenly tingling as the decor and interior of the restaurant really catching on us.

The menu is quite lavish, and as we came in big group (30+ family members), we have the pleasure of being served by their chef personally. Yay!

The food tasted superb, and just to let you guys drool, we will just show you the pictures ^_^.

(There is Nothing More Comforting Than) Mom's Bakery

Got the information about this place from our aunt. At first we were a little bit sceptical as "auntie's recommendation" means the place is usually old and not interesting.
It turned out that our auntie is quite hip :), as the place is not looked old for me.
The recommendation to try is their famous tuna sandwich and their Vietnamese spring roll. The tuna sandwich was sold out at that time, so we switched to Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken Sandwich, and Vietnamese spring roll (they still have some fortunately).
Their taste is like what recommended. Fresh bread, fresh vegetables, great topping.
Too bad they do not serve any homemade coffee (they have Nescafe Instant Coffee though).

Enjoy!

New Baso Tahu Vendor: Baso Tahu Lina

Got a new reference for baso tahu in Bandung... from a Jakartans! They sure know great foods of Bandung better than the natives :).
We decided to try it.
Surprisingly better than some of the vendors that we have tried.

Homemade Italian Pizza

Sometimes it is unbelievably easy to cook foods that usually looked hard to make. It is even especially easier if you can have it pre-made :).
For example, our pizza dough is easily purchased from Setiabudi Market. Tomato sauce? Just use the prepacked tomato sauce for spaghetti :).
All we have to do is just spread the tomato on top of the pizza dough. Add oregano, sliced sausage and shredded cheese. Put in the oven for 5-10 minutes, and viola! You have a very delicious pizza :).

Yummy! Enjoy!

Reminiscing the (Old) Romance, Bajigur at Jl. Citarum, Bandung

Back then in college, when we used to date, this is our favorite place for hang-out. No cafe, no fancy restaurant, no fast-food.
Back then, living in a college budget really makes us creative :).
Back then, the vendors selling Bajigur were plenty. Sadly, now only couple of them remained.
Back then, the bajigur and the fried snacks tasted much better (at least in my opinion).

Nasi Dagang @LCCT, Malaysia (Contributed Article by Ruben Juliarto)

This posting is contributed by Ruben Juliarto, our beloved friend and regular contributor for Jejak Rasa. Thank you and look forward to hear about your next article contribution bro!

Writing this short article as waiting my today second flight to Indonesia in LCCT KL. After the first flight, I was getting terrible hungry since I insisted not to buy food on-board which I thought the price is unreasonable.
The price for one small on-board meal equals to two meals on the ground. I chose to get meal at Medan Selara or Food Garden as translation says on the direction board.

Got excited for a while because of the chance to taste local culinary, which have been several times reviewed on local blog.

I strolled over all kiosks, see nasi goreng/ fried rice, nasi padang meal, beverages and breads, then stop my step after seeing KFC kiosk. On flight all the time, my mouth already drooling for Malaysian Indian Curry.

I picked nasi dagang, which remind me  of Bandung's nasi uduk. The rice was wrapped with banana leaf, then served with curry fish, pickle in sour sauce, and sambal/ chilly sauce The taste of curry fish was great, the smell of curry's spice teased my nose. the thick curry paste tingled my tongue.

Well, it is hard to describe in words.

Brunch in BMC...

Hi!

Happy (Belated) New Year 2013! May we all be prosperous, healthy, and happy this year!

It's been a while since the last time we posted in this blog. The materials for posting are very abundant, and yet we have not got the time yet to arrange and post them all due to our school assignments. Even our guest contributor is studying for his master degree AND taking a sabbatical leave to study Chinese Language in Chinese....  Talked about Nerd eh? :).
We did occasionally posted in our twitter account at twitter.com/jejakrasa, but it also quite rare.

So, to kickstart this year, our first post will be this brunch at BMC (Bandoengsche Melk Centrals). Enjoy!
