Authentic Minang Catering, in Bandung Area, Anyone?

We have seen Catering serving Sate Padang in wedding before, but today we see something new.

Have you ever seen a Catering serving Rendang in a Wedding Banquet?

For us, this is new!

Rendang (An authentic Indonesian Food which claimed to be one of the best dish in the world by CNN) is notoriously hard to cook, as it takes a decent amount of time to make it (sometimes almost half a day can be spent to make them), and serving it in a catering is a harder challenge.

But, somehow they pulled it quite great. It is served simple, humbling, but pack with burst of taste. I can say as a Padang descendant, this rates as one of the best Rendang I have ever tasted. Their other Padang dish such as Sate Padang and Chili sauce also tasted great, but their Rendang undoubtedly is the star of the show.

Will try to influence some of my family gathering committee to use their service in the next Idul Fitri event.

Enjoy!

Kedai Kopi Bara: "Rasa Hotel, Harga Motel"

Currently we developed a new fun habit: Yoga. For more than a month now, every week in Tuesday we would join a Yoga class from 18.00-19.30. The goal is to balance our daily work (food blogging?) with regular exercise. Of course, after Yoga, we tend to develop a massive hunger, and usually we hunt for a new place to eat here.

Today is no different. One of our friend, Ramala, who also likes to go and do Yoga has introduced us to a new coffee spot in Jalan Aceh Bandung. Located in front of Hyatt Hotel Bandung, the place is quite small and is easy to miss if you don't pay attention to the road.

With seating for around 20 people, according to Ramala, this place is famous for it's grilled sandwich and coffee. When we go there, we the tagline of the coffee shop called "Rasa Hotel, Harga Motel" or translated in English "Hotel Taste, Motel Price", we are already encouraged with it. Now, for the tasting...

Ramala has reached the place earlier before we got there. She already ordered some food but have not yet ordered drink. We quickly ordered their Vietnamese Coffee Drip, Irish Coffee, and Affogato. For meal we ordered their lemon sandwich, martabak mie, fried tofu for snack and french fries + sausage combo.

Besides their coffee variation, they also serves local Indonesian coffee, such as Aceh, Toraja, Balinese, and others. For the serving they offered it in several techniques, including French Press and Pot.

After while of discussing, or more precisely: talking about random things, we ordered a second batch of serving consisted of Thai Iced Tea, more fried tofu, more grilled sandwich, and flavored tea.

After a while the night is getting late and we decided to end the day. Total of more 10 servings of food and beverages are ordered by us. Total cost? Rp 120.000,- or around $12! Not bad eh?

This is why we loved Bandung a lot. Hopefully it will stay this way ^_^.

Enjoy!

Waroeng Akam at Banteng Street, Bandung

It is been a while, almost a year in fact since this place opened in Banteng Street. We always passed it, and when we do we say to ourselves: next time I passed this street I will try to eat here.

And days passing by...

Days become weeks...

Weeks become months...

Months become almost a year...

Until today...

At first this was not our destined place, as I was planning to have a hair cut. But somehow faith interfere, and we ended up eating in this place...

The place called Waroeng Akam. Akam stands for Ayam Kampung (Local Chicken). Bandung has the privilege to be the 3rd city to have this restaurant open after Yogyakarta and Malang.

Their specialty is Deep Fried Local Chicken. You can choose the dish in two variations: Standard or Remesan (Crushed). The crushed version means that you don't have to worry about the bones, as the meat and skins are already fall off. I think this is a variant of Ayam Kremes which has already gained popularity a while ago.

Besides chicken, they also sell chicken offal meat such as the head, liver, and feet. I personally are not into those things, but Alia on the other hand really like liver. They also sell Tahu and Tempe Bacem, and Garang Asem (Local Central Java delicacy).

Since the chicken is local, the taste is sweeter and tastier compared with the free range chicken, however they have lesser meat compared with the free range chicken. They serve their chili condiments in two version: the sweet one and the super duper hot one. Alia says that the super duper hot chili reminds her of the Bebek Slamet one. I quickly agree since I don't want to taste the chili :). I have learned my hot chili lesson in painful way during my previous trip to Bebek Slamet hehehe... But for those who really enjoy hot sauce, this is one of the alternative.

So, if you are looking for another option to spend your lunch time around Buah Batu area, then this place can provide you with the alternative.

Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Alia! Let's Celebrate in Lacamera Coffee

Last September 13th is a special day for one of our contributor, Alia who celebrating her 33th Birthday. To celebrate, we decided to go to Lacamera Coffee, a new coffee shop in Jl. Naripan, Bandung.

We have been here for several times. What we enjoyed most about this place is that because this place: 1) It is still new, so the place is not quite packed with people yet. 2) The food is delicious. 3). They make their coffee with heart 4). The price currently is quite affordable for us.

Oh, we forgot! The 5) reason is that because their Barista is super talented. We can order their hot latte and they can make funny pictures based on our demand. Of course, today we ordered the Happy Birthday picture :).

Their signature dish is the waffle, but for us personally their pasta, salad and soup are also quite good. For their signature drink is their Lacamera Mint Coffee and Red Velvet Latte.

Really enjoyed our dining experience here. Hopefully they can keep their great service standard for years to come.

Enjoy!

New Burger/ Hotdog Joint in Town: Sosis Colok

We are always been a big fan of Burger & Hotdog. It is tasty, fulfilling, and it can be found almost everywhere. We have our own favorite joint, from the one in Jakarta, up to the one in Bangkok.

The downside of our liking to Burger/ Hotdog is that it is considered as a high cholesterol (unhealthy) food, so when we tried to eat them we would do our best to go for the homemade one, as we assumed it has the lowest cholesterol level (we could be wrong).

In Bandung, it is quite difficult to find good burger joint, outside of the fast food franchise, so when we found this outlet during our morning walk routine in Buah Batu Car Free Day, we are excited.

The chef cooking in this joint looked very passionate with their cooking, and they really enjoy cooking for their customer. They also took the hygiene level of their cooking area very seriously. A very plus point for us.

They served mainly sausage in a stick, with Burger & Hotdog as their feature menu. We choose to buy their signature Hotdog Colok which consisted of sausage in a bun with prime ribs. Looks delicious.

And it does. The prime ribs are cooked until crisp. Leaving you with a bacon-like impression. The sausage was infused with cheese and they have a barbecue sauce that keeps you wanting for more.

Really looking forward for our next morning walk routine in Buah Batu Car Free Day next week.

Enjoy!
