One Afternoon at Le Marly Pantry

One day I saw my friend's BlackBerry Messenger status "@Le Marly love it!" and her profile picture was the interior of the restaurant. It reminded me one restaurant in Jakarta, Kitchenette at Grand Indonesia (GI). It was the writing on the blackboard style. I thought it was new place for try out.

Yesterday, Aswin had his dissertation proposal presentation, quite a hard day. So, why not we ended the day with something fun and then we had our late lunch here -because the conference that I attended just give me snacks-

So, we went to Jl. Citarum, all I knew it was near Amaris Hotel, but not quite sure the exact spot and surprise it was the place that used to be melayu restaurant.

The front facade of the restaurant was altered and it was gave white paint and some decorations. I think the last restaurant facade was better than this one, but the interior was nice and made me wonder who will clean the dust from all the decorated glass.

It looked like kitchen with all country look cabinets and shelves, a very "big" kitchen. The space was divided into three: smoking area in the front; non-smoking area in the middle; and the enclosed meeting room with glass wall. There's a little garden in the back of the building.

We sat -of course- on non-smoking area near the restaurant toilet. When we ordered the food and looked at the menu, there was no menu for beverages and it was interesting they put the menu on the bottle at the table.

I ordered its specialties, crepes, the savoury one called Galette de Sarasin and picked La rochelle, crepes with beef patties fried egg, caramelized onion, grated cheese mozzarella, mustard mayonnaise and carrot juice for the drink. *try to stay healthy hehe* Aswin ordered Local Beef Sirloin in medium rare served with vegetables, potato and mathre d'hot butter and rum raisin milk shake.

There was variety in the menu, like: salads, soup, galette de sarasin, pasta, pancake, waffles, pizza, savories item, steak -main specialties- and butter rice. Actually it was crepes and pancake place with French ambient.

The price is rather premium, it's about Rp 20.000,- for beverages and Rp. 40.000,- for the foods, the steak with imported meat comes in higher price around Rp. 80.000,- So, my comment for its savory crepes, it was too salty, me didn't like it. It can't be compared with Crepes&Co in Bangkok while the price is almost similar. The steak came in thin slice, so it was not medium rare and the taste just so so. I guess the one in La Cucina it's better that this one and the beef is the same, the local one.So, it was such disappointment. Well, maybe my expectation was too high considering the last time we ate steak was fine dining. I guess the place is great for hangout with friends or family because of the cozy atmosphere but next time I come here maybe I should give it another try and who knows the pancake or waffles is good or the pizza maybe.

Warung Talaga: All about Tahu

Warung Talaga is also one of my favorite place -I guess today I publish all my favorite one- First time, I ate here alone. I guess that day I had a bad day, so after class I went to Parisj Van Java (PVJ) alone and then I was so hungry and when I passed Warung Talaga the place was not crowded like usual. So, I try this Baso Bobolokot, it was meatball with spicy soy sauce, nasi bakar bawang pedas and for the beverages I picked es tape. Well, the food was suit my taste.

The second time, I was going here with Aswin. It was the other restaurant at Cihampelas Walk and the space used to be La Petit Paris, the one that we've got 50% discount. The restaurant much more larger than the one in PVJ. So, at that time I didn't plan to have lunch here, because the place was just opened. So, it was more comfortable in here.

Then, I was having dinner here with my family to celebrate my father's birthday and also it was few days before fasting month, so it could be munggahan also. I think the price was okay and the ambient was nice. I think it is great place to hang out with some friend in the afternoon, while eating all kind of food made from tahu. The beverages here is quite unique, there is air kendi and soy milk that I don't know why everyone order this.

And that's why when my friends and I went to Cihampelas Walk, we decided to hang out at Warung Talaga.

Burgundy Wine & Dine: So Far but Close at Heart

I think this is also one of my favorite restaurant in Bandung (area) -considering it actually in Maribaya- I knew the place because of some random tweet from one of my friend on my timeline, she was "check in" at this restaurant and then I kind of curious and clicked the link. It was decided that someday I will went there, but....the place was quite far from Bandung, it's around 45 minutes by car -if there's no traffic jam-. So, I told Aswin about this place and by the time he heard about where it was located. It was a no. But I still wanted to go there.

Then out of nowhere, one day Aswin asked me about this restaurant and we decided to try to go in here. It was Wednesday *I guess* and I had 9 AM class and Aswin had no class. So, at 11 AM we leaving ITB for having lunch at Burgundy. Actually, I didn't know where the exact place at that time, all I know it was in Maribaya area. So, I googled through my BlackBerry and find the address and then guided by BlackBerry Maps to go there via Upper Dago area. -that's why I love BlackBerry- It was 45 minutes trip through the "middle of nowhere" area in Northern Bandung. The streets was small but there was no traffic jam, actually you only saw few cars.

Well, by the time we got there, the restaurant was just opened and the guest was only both of us. The first impression of the place was GREAT. The buillding and the landscape was well designed, simple yet nice and  the view from our seat are remarkable. It was so serene maybe it was what Bachelard said about tranquility, solitude and contemplation of the place, so we can "dream in peace".

I ordered Bitterbalen and Chicken Wings for appetizer, Spicy Chicken Pasta for main course, and Cappucinno for the beverages. -I forget what Aswin ordered- The food was a good quality and taste great-why they opened place so far, if the taste was awful- So, like in the website says "the guest will have memorable experience" YES, indeed. I hope there would be another visit to the restaurant.

On my second visit, it was on my birthday *wide smile* because it was my request to have dinner here on my birthday and of course Aswin agree with this. *tee hee* That day I was having two classes from 7 AM till 3 PM -what a day for birthday-, so that's why we went there in the afternoon. Actually, I kind of reconsider it because it was the third restaurant I visited that day. You can see in here. Because I was so full that time, but at 3 PM, I guess the class had took my energy.

We went there though the same road last time but the difference that there was so many signage point out to Burgundy, even from the Dago intersection, in front of McDonalds. So, I guess we didn't need any map, but there was a shortcut through Pramestha Residence and I found out that Burgundy was part of it. So, that explain why the owner put the restaurant there.

It was the same like last time. There was not a lot of people there, maybe the number of waiter was more than the guest. So, we wonder why so much spaces, maybe it was full of people in the weekend and maybe they have so much spaces so people can held party or wedding in here. The greeter and waiter was so friendly and nice, we thought oh maybe because there was only few guests here. But I think it was nice. They asking whether the food was okay or not. Just nice gesture. Even he offered us the wagyu steak that cost around Rp. 500.000,- *so much money for the steak* Other than the beef menu, the others had standard price around Rp. 30.000,- to Rp. 75.000,-

I ordered Beef Stroganoff (pasta) and some celery mixed with mango juice. Aswin ordered fish and chips -because he was craving for fish and chips from Fish&Co- and Burgundy Tea, for the dessert we ordered a Rp. 30.000,- triple pudding chocolate with filling.

I had a nice time on my birthday. Great place, great food, and great companion :)

Origin: Restaurant with Healthy Food

Origin is one of my  favourite place in Bandung. It has good interior, great ambient, and great food and it is healthy one. At first I thought it was just a store because from the front of building doesn't tell you "restaurant" and from the glass door you can see the shelves, so you just assumed it is "store" But the front elevation is really interesting. It is simple, fresh, and modern. So, one day I suggested Aswin to see the place. It was around 10 AM and we had just swimming at Babakan Siliwangi. The place like what I thought, it was store...but at the back side voila....it was a restaurant. We were (very) suprised and the interior was kind of IKEA catalogue and then I found out that the furniture all comes from IKEA and they also sell IKEA product. So much for IKEA.

So, we had a brunch there, I think it was sandwich and rosti. Well, I like it, the sandwich had fresh (organic) vegetable and whole wheat bread. *healthy* and the rosti had little salt in it but I think it's great because the one in Marche had lot of butter in it.

After that, I went there couple of times with family and friends and I also recommend this place to all the people I knew and they very surprised also and most of them like the place.
