Es Doger....Alhamdulillah!

What I love from Bandung and the surrounding area is you can find almost any type of food and sometimes you found an interesting one.

That day I went to Griya Yogya department Store with my mom in Cibabat, Cimahi and I saw a tent in the corner of their parking lot that sold the variety of local snacks such as awug, es doger, es goyobod, and so on. Suddenly it reminded me of es doger in BSD which I've been missed a lot. So, why not bought one?

Es doger is one of traditional ice cream that is made from coconut milk and served with toppings like black sticky rice, peuyeum, crushed coconut, etc.

Hanging out at Kue Balok Kang Didin

This street vendor had been raved a lot and once a local newspaper published an article about this vendor. For your information, kue balok is a traditional snack from West Java area, it is made from flour and have a similar taste like pukis, waffle, or pancake. The difference is how they cooked, while the other are more modern, this one using specific equipment with brisket.

That day I had to pick up Aswin from the airport and since there still so much time until the airplane is landed, I decided to take a look this kue balok stall on jalan Abdurahman Saleh. The place wasn't hard to find because I could see motorcycles line up for on street parking and many people lounging around near the stall.

I opted for take away. I couldn't imagine myself hanging out with the youngster here. Well, I kind of tempted since the weather was cold and one or two drinks of wedang would warmed up my body. So, I just order 10 pieces of kue balok in variety of flavor, such as original, chocolate, and blueberry. The original one cost Rp. 1500,- and the one with flavoring cost Rp. 2000,-. I waited around 10-15 minutes for the kue balok.

Although some people said that it taste ordinary, but I think this one is quite different. It has more soft texture like pukis and after all it is good! So, I munched them while waiting Aswin in the airport.

Bali (Culinary) Trip in March 2014: Kakiang Bakery

One of the best (Japanese) bakery that we ever visited, Kakiang Bakery is a blend of modern Japanese bakery with a hint of old time flavors. Their signature bakery menu in our opinion consisted of their strawberry cheese cake, cream puff, millie crepe, and donuts!

Besides the bakery, they also serving several local and international menu that is also delicious. Today we ordered their Wild Mushroom Salad, Chicken Fried Rice, Banana Juice, and Free Refilled Water. For dessert we ordered their Strawberry Parfait.

Overall experience? Priceless!

This place will definitely be in our first visit during our next trip to Ubud... Soon!

Bali (Culinary) Trip in March 2014: Oops Gelato, Ubud

Another ice cream parlor to consider when visiting Ubud. This parlor is an expansion from the Oops restaurant and bar. Located strategically in front of Ubud Market, this ice cream vendor sells several old time classic flavor to the tourism all around here.

Our take for today is Blueberry Cheese flavor. Soft and creamy, this ice cream is well suited for a good afternoon. Priced around Rp 25-50 thousand ($2-5), their ice cream are worth to try.

Mon Cherie Dessert... It's What Happiness Tastes Like

Three of our closest cousins decided to start their own dessert line, and we are really excited and happy with their work.
Their pudding are based on our Grandma's secret recipe, so as as someone that already tasted them, we can say that it is tasty. They, however, managed to twist things around with additional four flavors of green tea, taro, bubble gum, and guava, making them more modern and fit for younger audience.

Besides the pudding, they also have their own line of Apple Pie Pop Tart. With the price range of around 9-12K rupiah, we suggested that you should try them. They also accept delivery, although right now it is just around Bandung area. Hopefully soon they would be able to expand their delivery area to wider area.

Things We Found in a Bazaar: Fried Ice Cream

After we finished our sales, we decided to take a stroll around the Bazaar. Not yet full after eating a gigantic sized grilled sausage, two box of mixed fried veggies snack and two glass of iced tea, we search for other things to eat. 

Somewhat needing for a closure after successful but yet disappointed sales of our own, we decided to go and find dessert. Then we sees this vendor who sells Fried Ice Cream. Quickly we are thinking: Ice Cream is a great way to end a meal, but does the fried ones provide the similar experience?

We decided to give it a go. At a cost of Rp 15.000 (US$ 1.2) we can have a go for this tasty treat. Fried Ice Cream is basically Ice Cream covered in pastry dough. It is quite popular back in the US, but now just celebrating their reenactment here in South East Asia. We choose the Strawberry Ice Cream with Blueberry topping.

The Ice Cream is dipped in hot oil for less than a minute before serving. When eaten, we get the crunchy and the crumbling of the pastry but inside are greeted with cold Strawberry Ice Cream. As it is a combination of hot/ cold when eaten early, it might presented as a surprise for some people. We personally liked it, as it combines two of our favorite item: Pastry and Ice Cream. What is not to like?

Pie Susu Alternatives: Pie Susu Special

Bali and Pie Susu (Small Milk Pie) are allready become a synonym. As it become bigger phenomenon as an alternative to the already popular Kacang Bali (Balinese Peanut), when someone go to Bali nowadays it is considered as one of the main gifts to be bought for Families and Friends (especially co-workers who are demanding "happiness, guilt and jealousy fee" over your picnic :P).

More and more vendors selling Pie Susu is appearing in Bali. So, we are excited to find that one of my dad's co-worker deliver the "happiness, guilt and jealousy fee" to us in the form of Pie Susu.

The Box

The one that we have today came from Pie Susu Special brand. One box consisted of 9 pie. The company website stated that they already in business since 2007, and they also able to provide with a delivery system to anywhere in Indonesia. Quite neat and great touch in our opinion. Their price per box is Rp 17.000 (US$ 1.3) for original flavor and Rp 20.000 (US$ 1.7) for cheese flavor.

The taste is OK, and it really healed a bit part of us who are longing to go Bali. Hopefully we can go there again soon.

Mellow and Romantic Spot: Restaurant & Cafe Concordia Bandung

These photos had been taken around one year ago. We were kind of stranded here because of something and decided to have dinner in here. This restaurant and cafe had been around for ages, and I always love this place, so many memories happened in here. I used to come here with my best friend, she is now living in Belgium, and she was a member of this place. Aswin also used to member of this place, but he gave it up because why do he had this when we were living hundred kilometers away.

Beside nostalgic, I always felt mellow and romantic when I'm in here. I didn't know it is because of the atmosphere or the solitude. Well, last time I went here on New Year and my brother and his family also come, this place is something isn't it?

So, enough about me and this place. That night we ordered Caesar Salad, Grilled Norwegian Salmon Fillet, and Duet of Gindara and Salmon Fillet on Vegetable for an appetizer and main course. The beverages were coffee leguisse and lemon tea. We also ordered dessert, but I think I forget the name, it's like cake and ice cream inside of it. It was GOOD! Of course, it is, with the price like that you rarely be disappointed.

So, if you need some solitude in Bandung area or feeling romantic or mellow. This is the right place! Enjoy!

All about Durian from Pekanbaru

We've been crazy over Durian. They smell like feet, but hey they taste GOOD. Over weeks ago our parents brought the gift all kind of Durian  from Medan, from pancake Durian to the container full of Durian itself. It was like Durian party in the house!

As we know, Medan always famous for its Durian like our previous post in here, but somehow Pekanbaru also city for Durian lovers. So, my sister in law got gifts from her friend from Palembang, Megarasa Durian  Pancake and also Durian Soft Cake, this was something that I barely knew.

The pancake tasted superb. Note that the one who write this love Durian, it always good and very good. The one that super good was Kanyao Durian from Thailand, must taste it if you are crazy over Durian. The soft cake also really good, this one had the texture like klappertaart but can you imagine the coconut change into durian?

So, anyone going to Pekanbaru? Gotta has this for your loved ones!
