(Culinary) Trip around Bandung: K99 Curry House at Pasteur Food Market

Ok, it was the 4th time I was eating Indian food in the same restaurant but different branch, here is the post. We were here because Christa told us that she haven't try Indian food before, Icha and Anya also want to try Indian food here at K99. This restaurant was a plan B, at first we planned to go to Sumber Hidangan for ice cream but hello...the place was closed. We were rather confuse with the opening hour of the place. Since last time we came here with Christa, the place also closed. My guess was the place closed on holiday and Sunday. Weird, isn't it? While everyone keep their business open on Sunday, the owner just decided to take a break. Well, restaurant owner is also human, right?

While we're heading to Sumber Hidangan, we passed the new K99 Curry House new location on jalan dr. Radjiman and there were banners and everything, so we thought the place was already open. But, no, they just moved today so the place wasn't open yet. But luckily we met the owner, he was Indian descendent but actually Malaysian. He already had Indian restaurant in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. He told us why he opened such restaurant in Bandung, he also said that he tried to make the Indian food more suitable for South East Asian people and it make sense for us since the taste quite different with usual Indian food, more delicious.

Then, after talk a little bit, we're going to the restaurant branch at Pasteur Food Market. We were so tired and Anya said we had the journey from 6 am till 6 pm, no wonder we were exhausted. We ordered Samosa for appetizer and had Naan, Chapati and Canai complete with Chicken Tandoori and Curry. For the beverages everyone choose Mango Lassi and I choose tea tarik, it was the 4th glass of tea today. :D Look our life full of tea right, we just never paid attention to it.

So, Anya said ih her twitter
@sitikania: @sitilarissa @aswinrahadi @aliarahadi What a nice 14 hours of adventurous culinary journey! Super thankies!
You're welcome. Hopefully more culinary trip to come. And also more post of culinary trip :D

Enjoy!

(Culinary) Trip around Bandung with Christa: RM Sari Rasa M. Arin

I've been coming to this vendor before, when I was with my school friends had outing to Ciater and this was the post. The gepuk was awesome, well... I never had meat so tender like this. So, that's why we took Christa, Anya and Icha for having lunch in here. Actually, the restaurant name was not Marin but M. Arin, oh silly me :) Everyone was enjoying the meal and they praised the gepuk and also dendeng, it was also tender.

So, full stomach, happy face, tired, but still excited to go to our next venue. Let's go back to Bandung!

Enjoy!

(Culinary) Trip around Bandung with Christa: Walini Tea Factory at Ciater

Based on Wikipedia, Tea is an aromatic beverage commonly prepared by pouring boiling hot water over cured leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. The term also refers to the plant itself. After water, tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world. It has a cooling, slightly bitter, astringent flavour which many people enjoy.

In Indonesia, tea is easy to get from the low to high quality and the price also quite cheap because of that sometimes we take it for granted. I even didn't know before this visit how is the tea processing. So, the Walini tea factory was our next venue in this trip around Bandung, since we knew there's no tea plant or factory in Holland.

Actually we already wrote about the tea factory in this post but Aswin and I arrived late, so my friends already ended their tour. This was our chance to see how they process the tea leaves from the start. We arrived at the factory near lunch hour, although we kind of hungry but we agreed to take a little tour in the factory first. The fee for the tour was Rp. 15.000,- per person plus Rp. 30.000,- for the tour guide. I kind of confused because when I read last post it was cost Rp. 7000,- per person...hmm. Forget it, but it still reasonable price, we've got a cup of tea and a box of black tea after the tour.

The condition of building was rather not good and need to be renovated, the tour guide said that the factory was established during Indonesia was being governed by Dutch and renovated in 1990s but they still used the old machine. That's the reason why most of visitors were tourist from Holland around 60%, beside that were students from Bogor Institute of Agricultural (IPB). First, we were being taken to the building which used as place for weighing the truck that loaded with tea leaves and we also saw a lot of lumber and he said that it was used as fuel for the machine since the increasing of gas prices.

This factory in Ciater only produce black teas only, the tour guide said that every type of tea had different process. In the production of black teas, the halting of oxidization by heating is carried out simultaneously with drying. So, according to Wikipedia teas can generally be divided into categories based on how they are processed. There are at least six different types of tea: white, yellow, green, oolong, black, and post-fermented teas of which the most commonly found on the market are white, green, oolong, and black. Some varieties, such as traditional oolong tea and Pu-erh tea, a post-fermented tea, can be used medicinally.

And this is the tea processing based on Wikipedia: after picking, the leaves of Camellia sinensis soon begin to wilt and oxidize, unless they are immediately dried. The leaves turn progressively darker as their chlorophyll breaks down and tannins are released. This enzymatic oxidation process, known as fermentation in the tea industry, is caused by the plant's intracellular enzymes and causes the tea to darken. In tea processing, the darkening is stopped at a predetermined stage by heating, which deactivates the enzymes responsible.

Without careful moisture and temperature control during manufacture and packaging, the tea may become unfit for consumption, due to the growth of undesired molds and bacteria. At minimum it may alter the taste and make it undesirable. So, just like aforementioned tea is traditionally classified based on the techniques with which it is produced and processed.
After the tour we had a cup of tea and box of Walini tea. I think the tour was great, now we know how it was made, then we're heading to our lunch venue.

Enjoy!

(Culinary) Trip around Bandung with Christa: Punclut Sunday Market

Punclut is one area in Northern part of Bandung and it is in Ciumbuleuit. It is known for the street vendors that sold the Nasi Timbel or you can say Sundanese cuisine. Every Sunday there always the Sunday Market, people practically sold everything here from foods, vegetables, clothing and many more, even pet like birds and rabbits.

We picked this place as one of venue in this trip around Bandung with Christa, because we think it's the place where Christa can experience the real marketplace in Indonesia, while sightseeing with beautiful scenery in the background. The Sunday market here is happened long time before Car Free Day in Bandung. It has became public place in Bandung, people came with different motivation, doing exercise, buy some foods, leisure, etc.

We walked until we reached the RRI tower, it was quite far, maybe around 2 km from the parking place (Salamun hospital) dan the road was steeping up. So, after that we searched good place to sit and had drinks. We ordered the coconut, while Aswin just had coffee with milk. For the snacks, they were tahu, tempe, perkedel and the brown rice. Actually, Aswin choose it because Anya, Icha & Christa never ate brown rice before. Really??

And then we're going back to the car and while on it, Aswin bought surabi oncom and sugar cane drink. But too bad for Christa, I guess with the height and her complexion everyone kept looking at her and when we stood still while waiting, people asked her to take photo with them. She said she never used to with all this attention although everyone kept saying while we're walking how pretty she is and she's looked like a doll. I just couldn't hold my smile when an older lady said, "Meuni geulis pisaaan, jiga boneka" :D

And lucky for Anya and Icha they've got Suju (Super Junior) Poster with very reasonable price. We were quite tired but still few of venues to go. After this we went to the Car Free Day on jalan Dago and also visited our campus, Institute Technology of Bandung. But before that we searched for the haunted house on jalan Ciumbuleuit, which surprisingly gone and turned into hotel.

Unfortunately, the Car Free Day already over because we're stuck on jalan Taman Sari. So, we took Christa a tour to our campus from the Labtek XII Architecture Dept. to the School Business and Management at the back side of the campus. And then we took pictures on the entrance and actually it was our first time. Well, it kind of an excuse since we accompany Christa :D

After that we were heading to next venue and it'll be on our next post.

Enjoy!

K99 Curry House Indian Food (Before Moving!)

Located near the Pasteur toll gate, you might missed the place. Actually it was the last time we had meal in this location because around two weeks it will be moved to jalan Dr. Radjiman. Before this visit, we already had lunch here and you can see the post here and also post about the other branch near Bandung Trade Center (BTC).

Aswin was craving about the Indian food since I had it for lunch just by myself a week ago, so here we are. Aswin had Naan with Chicken Tandoori  and I had Briyani Rice with Chicken Curry (Plating Set), it also included vegetables and Papadam (Indian Chips). For the beverages Aswin ordered just like usual Mango Lassi and I choose Cucumber Mint Ice. The Indian food here always good, I found out that I prefer the chicken curry than the mutton one, it taste VERY good.

So, enjoy!
