DeHaPe Foodcourt, Dalem Kaum, Bandung

The Invitation

On April 2015, we were invited to the press conference for the opening of DeHaPe Foodcourt in Dalem Kaum area, Bandung. We were excited to attend this press conference, because as far as we know, there are only handful of restaurant/ foodcourt that are available in the area.

The Press Conference

During the press conference, there are various representatives from several blogs, and also from news and radios. The event went well and lively. Several main interest points that the vendor are promoting include beautiful view and scenery from the foodcourt, variation of unique menus in the area, and cooperation with several communities in Bandung area. In overall, their concept was splendid and unique, as most of the other foodcourt do not try to extend to reach communities in Bandung.

Hainanese Chicken Rice

As for their food, it was tasted good. We particularly loved their Hainanese Chicken Rice (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hainanese_chicken_rice) menu. And also the experience having lunch or dinner there was quite unique.

So, the last time you are visiting the Alun-Alun area, and you are hungry but have not yet decided to eat, then this foodcourt definitely should be on top of your list.

Enjoy!

Jakarta (Culinary) Trip in November 2013: Food Louvre, Grand Indonesia

It was our first day in Jakarta. The main objectives is to accompany our sister-in-law who is having a conference in Universitas Indonesia. However, the true objectives is to enjoy a night out in the central of Jakarta. To be exact in the Bundaran HI!

One of the main attraction in Bundaran HI are the malls, and today we are visiting the Grand Indonesia malls. After strolling around and sight-seeing, we finally decided to have our meals.

When traveling with our parents, usually this produce problems. Their taste is slightly more conventional, while ours are more progressive. So, the Food Louvre provides us with a win-win solution.

Our parents choose the Vietnamese dishes, Alia choose the Japanese Ramen, while for myself, I select the Chinese noodle.

Overall experience was great, and we are excited to explore Bundaran HI area more in the following days.

Enjoy!

Ayam Goreng Nikmat at IBCC

One of the oldest fried chicken franchise to be found in Bandung, this vendor are famous in its original place, Jalan Panaitan Bandung. So it is quite a bit surprise to find their branch in the food court of IBCC, Bandung.

Combined effect of great x-banner display, hungry stomach (it is already 2:00 PM as we speak), and imagination leads me to select this vendor over more than twenty other vendor in this food court. Imagination flies as I wait anxiously for their serving of Paket C which consisted of rice, fried chicken, fried tofu, fried tempeh, lalaban and chili sauce.

Complete Paket C

Finally the serving comes. With happy face I attack the food like a hungry coyote (well, at least that is what Alia describe about my hungry feasting today :P). Yum! Crispy fried chicken combined with hot fried tofu and tempeh and spicy chili really combined great together.

Hungry stomach replaced with happy stomach leads to imagination of displayed king size bedroom in the Informa section of IBCC.

I really missed my bed so bad right now... -___-".

Kedai Kopi Bang Razali

It is my second trip to Jakarta in this week as I have some errands to be finished there. Everytime I went to Jakarta at Padaleunyi toll road, there are familiar signages with big letters saying "Kedai Kopi Bang Razali" written there.

It drives me curious...

So, on this lovely day I decided to give it a try. The place is located in the food court of KM 40 rest area. It turned out they served an old school type of coffee to their customers (I suspect they used Aceh coffee).
I ordered their coffee tarik (a twist of reknown Malaysian teh tarik, but with coffee instead). The price is Rp 20.000 (U$ 2.2), a quite hefty price for a coffee in Indonesia, but nevertheless it tasted great, and strong!

This will surely keep me up awake during my trip to Jakarta :).

All About Korea...

Not just the K-Pop wave that are plaguing the world. Their cuisine is also invading the universe.
And Indonesia, as one of the most lucrative market for Korean wave does not want to be left behind.

Now you can easily found Bibimbap (Korean Rice Dish) and Kimchi (Korean Fermented Cabbage ~ Appetizer) in Jakarta, Bandung, and other big cities in Indonesia.

One of the prominent Korean Restaurant in Bandung is this Meong Ja. Their branch can be found in Sarijadi area and in Riau Junction. Their price is quite high, but it is worthed if you wanted to have Korean taste in your palate.

Dimsum Anyone?

Been craving for dimsum for a while. Especially since we tried the fresh dimsum with discount in Duck King.
Since we haven't got time to go there, then we settled with what available.

We found this stall in IBCC (Istana Bandung Commodity Center or Istana Bandung Computer Center? Still confused until now). Their dimsum is alright. Quite pricey, but really can tend our craving for a while. At least until we have the time to go to the nearest Duck King stall.

Enjoy!

Bangkok (Culinary) Trip in July 2012: Dinner at Food Village Suvarnabhumi International Airport

Before we went back to Indonesia, we still have around THB 500 to spend it the airport. As we still haven't got our dinner, and since the food itself might be expensive when we already inside the airport building after check-in, we decided to eat first.
There are around 8-10 vendors outside that sells food, but most of them are fully packed, even the Starbucks. So after long consideration (twice we move back and forth to scout the restaurants) we decided to eat in the Food Village.

The option is either the sticky rice and sliced mango and selection of fruits (which looked not very appealing), and boxed rice with chicken or pork. As we don't eat pork, then the option goes to the shredded fried chicken and rice.
Although the taste is quite average, one thing stands out is the price. With only around THB 55 (US$ 1,7) per box or THB 70 (US$ 2,1) with drink like in the picture, this could be the cheapest meal we ever have in Bangkok.

At least we went home to Indonesia not with an empty stomach :).

Bangkok (Culinary) Trip in July 2012: Ikea Restaurant & Bistro at Mega Bangna

It has been my obsession to go to Ikea everytime I went to surrounding East Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia and of course Bangkok since we don't have any Ikea in Indonesia. Well, there's an online shop where you can order for the Ikea items but the price is expensive.

So, first day in Bangkok I decided that I should go there. It was quite easy to go to the Ikea Mega Bangna and the detailed instruction is available at their website. Our hotel is near Phayat Thai BTS, the Sukhumvit Line, so I just took the BTS and then stopped at the Udomsuk BTS, went my way to the exit 5 and then waited for the Ikea shuttle bus that available every hour from 10 am - 11 pm, in front of the 711 convinience store. If you hesitate just asked to the cashier of the 711, but if you can see a lot of people waiting for something, especially if you spot tourist then you're on the right track.

Not like in Indonesia, the shuttle bus arrived at the exact time, I was waiting for the 10 am shuttle bus and surprisingly the bus came at exactly 10 am. Nice! Well, if the traffic quite good, the approximate time from Udomsuk Bus Station to Mega Bangna is around 30 minutes. And don't be so shocked this MEGA Bangna is very HUGE!!, even mall in Indonesia can not compare with this. So, the bus will stop in front of the Ikea, just be patient when the bus stop waiting for the other passengers in front of 711 (again).

The restaurant was located just outside the Ikea store itself. The place looked like food court with cute interior decoration. Actually, the restaurant wasn't my first option as place for lunch, I searched for Burger Bangkok Company but couldn't find it or other place I would liked to have lunch, so I stumbled at the Ikea restaurant.

I ordered Pasta with tomato sauce only (THB 65) with no meatball, because apparently it contained pork, glad that I read the ingredients and then grabbed the apple slices with mineral water. The concept of the restaurant was new for me, because there's main dish and you can add salad, breads, desserts, and drinks, all self service. And they also provide the trolley to bring the food, I never saw it before and after you finished your meal then you had to return the plate to the appointed place and also throw the rubbish to the bin.

There's also Ikea Bistro when you had to have quick meal such as hot dogs and ice cream, well, I bought the ice cream in both flavor, vanilla and chocolate (two tone) after I paid the items at the cashier and it only cost THB 7 around Rp. 2100,- very cheap and it tasted good! Beside the Ikea Bistro, there's Swedish Food Market where the provided the whole range of Swedish traditional specialties. I bought chocolate bar, in dark and hazelnut (THB 32) and marshmallow to take to Indonesia.

Don't have to worry, after you shopped at Ikea you can still strolled around Mega Bangna, because Ikea provide locker. :)

Well, so for me even it took 1 hour travel time from Bangkok city centre, Mega Bangna is worth to visit.

The Kiosk Highland Market: Not-So-New Branch

Have you had Kiosk-ing today?

The Kiosk is opened their new branch at Balubur Town Square or just call it Baltos, which we think the building is rather out of the place. They built the wrong kind of building on the wrong area.
I mean Balubur used to be rows of shops that sold stationery and on the behind of that you can find traditional market and because of the construction of Pasupati Bridge, they tore down the place and vacated themto the land near jalan Gelap Nyawang and after the bridge was finished, they started to build a new building to caters old and new tenants. But I guess the strategy was kind of wrong because after the building was opened till now the building still have many empty kiosk.

So, they tried the new strategy, because Bandung is famous for its culinary, they started gather  restaurant to open their branch here like The Kiosk Highland Market and the most recent one was Hoka Hoka Bento and I didn't know why Ace Hardware also ended up opening their branch at this building last week.

Back to The Kiosk Highland Market....
"Find the Food Court Sensation with European Mountainous Atmosphere"
That is their tag for this branch, so you will feel like in one of European mountain but of course the view most likely the high density settlements on Cikapundung waterfront area. But, I give thumb up for their interior decoration, it is good and relaxing and not like other branches which is too hectic and chaotic. That's why they also opened library with books mostly contain novels and manga for rent in their mezzanine area. And these are the list of the vendors you can find in The Kiosk Highland Market:
  • Nasi bakar Cimandiri,
  • Gado-gado Teuku Angkasa
  • Warung Nasi Raosan
  • Nasi Liwet Jambal Roti
  • Nasi Jenggo Bali Kembar Sari
  • Nasi Bambu Nambu
  • Nasi Gudeg Banda
  • Soto Bandung Soto Po
  • Warung Donburi & Ramen
  • Bebek Van Java
  • Konro Bakar Mekar Subur
  • Bubur Jalaprang
  • Mie Kocok Kebon Jukut
  • Pempek Rama
  • Batagor Abun
  • Ketan Bakar Lembang
  • Baso Tahu Sin Sien Hien
  • Tahu gejrot Pak Raden
  • Pancake Regallo
  • Yoghurt Si Emooh
  • Cuppajoe
  • Es campur Mang H. Ondo
I guess there's a lot of new vendors in this branch, they also had Ramen and Pancake. By the way, Aswin ordered gado-gado Teuku Angkasa, it is one of the famous gado-gado vendor in Bandung even since 12 years ago maybe more. I just ordered es campur because I already had lunch.

Actually, Aswin left his bag at The Kiosk and we just found out later after we drove out the parking area and Alhamdulillah their staffs are honest, they keep the bag at the receptionist and nothing missing. So, that's great and keep the good service!

The place never bored us and the price won't rip you off. Enjoy!

(Culinary) Trip around Bandung: K99 Curry House at Pasteur Food Market

Ok, it was the 4th time I was eating Indian food in the same restaurant but different branch, here is the post. We were here because Christa told us that she haven't try Indian food before, Icha and Anya also want to try Indian food here at K99. This restaurant was a plan B, at first we planned to go to Sumber Hidangan for ice cream but hello...the place was closed. We were rather confuse with the opening hour of the place. Since last time we came here with Christa, the place also closed. My guess was the place closed on holiday and Sunday. Weird, isn't it? While everyone keep their business open on Sunday, the owner just decided to take a break. Well, restaurant owner is also human, right?

While we're heading to Sumber Hidangan, we passed the new K99 Curry House new location on jalan dr. Radjiman and there were banners and everything, so we thought the place was already open. But, no, they just moved today so the place wasn't open yet. But luckily we met the owner, he was Indian descendent but actually Malaysian. He already had Indian restaurant in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. He told us why he opened such restaurant in Bandung, he also said that he tried to make the Indian food more suitable for South East Asian people and it make sense for us since the taste quite different with usual Indian food, more delicious.

Then, after talk a little bit, we're going to the restaurant branch at Pasteur Food Market. We were so tired and Anya said we had the journey from 6 am till 6 pm, no wonder we were exhausted. We ordered Samosa for appetizer and had Naan, Chapati and Canai complete with Chicken Tandoori and Curry. For the beverages everyone choose Mango Lassi and I choose tea tarik, it was the 4th glass of tea today. :D Look our life full of tea right, we just never paid attention to it.

So, Anya said ih her twitter
@sitikania: @sitilarissa @aswinrahadi @aliarahadi What a nice 14 hours of adventurous culinary journey! Super thankies!
You're welcome. Hopefully more culinary trip to come. And also more post of culinary trip :D

Enjoy!

Indian Food for Lunch? Why not, it's K99 Curry House

That day I was planning to go to my parents house, but somehow I had to fix the chair of our car because tomorrow we had to go to Jakarta. So, I ended up at car repair shop on jalan Pasteur and had to wait for three hours until it was fixed, then I was walking to Giant and maybe had lunch at the food court. The interesting food in there only Grilled Durian, but I was too hungry and eating Durian while my stomach still growling, nope..bad idea.

So, I remember about Tenno Ramen at Bandung Trade Centre (BTC) Food Court, it was just in front of the car repair shop, then when I was walking, I was catched by the banner of "Indian Food" at the uninteresting food court just before the gas station, so it was Indian food for lunch.

I recognized their banner and menu, I was guessing that it was the branch of the Indian Restaurant we've been gone before and yes..it is K99 Curry House. I ordered Chicken Briyani Hotplate for Rp. 30.000,- and the Indian Bru Coffee because I hadn't have my coffee this morning for Rp. 40.000,-. It was good! I really like the chicken curry...taste great!

The place was shabby and there's not many people here and I didn't know why they opened their branch here. I thought the one near Pasteur - Surya Sumantri junction was closed, but the waiter said they're not and they planned to move to jalan Otten. Wow...great, since I love this Indian restaurant, I was happy that they opened the restaurant much closer.

So, I still think that K99 Curry House is the best Indian food I ever had. If you are living or in Bandung, just try this Indian food, it is worth trying...

Enjoy the imported original Indian Spices and all the food is 100 % halal and no beef!!
