Bangkok (Culinary) Trip in July 2012: The Pizza Company Mah Boon Krong Center

Not much to say about this pizza vendor, as we go here to meet our friends from UiTM and also because we already starving :). It is one of the prominent pizza vendor in Thailand, it is like the Pizza Hut. It's all over the malls in Bangkok.

We ordered their Chicken Trio and their Tom Yum Gun Pizza. The chicken trio was OK, but the Tom Yum pizza is quite funny, as it has spices and sourness of Tom Yum Soup. Quite interesting...

Enjoy!

Bangkok (Culinary) Trip in July 2012: Another Hound Cafe, Siam Paragon

Got a craving for Italian food, but you want something different with the other Italian food that you have? Then Another Hound Cafe is the place you should go.
It's a branch of the already famous Greyhound Cafe, and like their tagline, serving Italian taste with Thai twist, this place serves variety of Italian and other western food that are infused with Thai spices.
Their location is scattered around Thailand, especially Bangkok, and the place we visited is the one in Siam Paragon. The design and feeling of the restaurant is very modern and minimalist, and it's suits perfectly with the people who are visiting it. Very hip and trendy.
We ordered the Chicken Wing (it's highly recommended so they say), and their Thai Anchovy Spaghetti (Another top menu). For drinks Alia ordered the Pink Journey, while I ordered the Lychee Shake.
And yes, they are right. It is delicious. The spaghetti has Thai spices twist, while the chicken wing is dipped into fish sauce before frying, making it very delicious.

Really a place worth visiting if you go to Thailand.

Enjoy!

Bangkok (Culinary) Trip in July 2012: Ikea Restaurant & Bistro at Mega Bangna

It has been my obsession to go to Ikea everytime I went to surrounding East Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia and of course Bangkok since we don't have any Ikea in Indonesia. Well, there's an online shop where you can order for the Ikea items but the price is expensive.

So, first day in Bangkok I decided that I should go there. It was quite easy to go to the Ikea Mega Bangna and the detailed instruction is available at their website. Our hotel is near Phayat Thai BTS, the Sukhumvit Line, so I just took the BTS and then stopped at the Udomsuk BTS, went my way to the exit 5 and then waited for the Ikea shuttle bus that available every hour from 10 am - 11 pm, in front of the 711 convinience store. If you hesitate just asked to the cashier of the 711, but if you can see a lot of people waiting for something, especially if you spot tourist then you're on the right track.

Not like in Indonesia, the shuttle bus arrived at the exact time, I was waiting for the 10 am shuttle bus and surprisingly the bus came at exactly 10 am. Nice! Well, if the traffic quite good, the approximate time from Udomsuk Bus Station to Mega Bangna is around 30 minutes. And don't be so shocked this MEGA Bangna is very HUGE!!, even mall in Indonesia can not compare with this. So, the bus will stop in front of the Ikea, just be patient when the bus stop waiting for the other passengers in front of 711 (again).

The restaurant was located just outside the Ikea store itself. The place looked like food court with cute interior decoration. Actually, the restaurant wasn't my first option as place for lunch, I searched for Burger Bangkok Company but couldn't find it or other place I would liked to have lunch, so I stumbled at the Ikea restaurant.

I ordered Pasta with tomato sauce only (THB 65) with no meatball, because apparently it contained pork, glad that I read the ingredients and then grabbed the apple slices with mineral water. The concept of the restaurant was new for me, because there's main dish and you can add salad, breads, desserts, and drinks, all self service. And they also provide the trolley to bring the food, I never saw it before and after you finished your meal then you had to return the plate to the appointed place and also throw the rubbish to the bin.

There's also Ikea Bistro when you had to have quick meal such as hot dogs and ice cream, well, I bought the ice cream in both flavor, vanilla and chocolate (two tone) after I paid the items at the cashier and it only cost THB 7 around Rp. 2100,- very cheap and it tasted good! Beside the Ikea Bistro, there's Swedish Food Market where the provided the whole range of Swedish traditional specialties. I bought chocolate bar, in dark and hazelnut (THB 32) and marshmallow to take to Indonesia.

Don't have to worry, after you shopped at Ikea you can still strolled around Mega Bangna, because Ikea provide locker. :)

Well, so for me even it took 1 hour travel time from Bangkok city centre, Mega Bangna is worth to visit.

Bali Culinary Lists: Ultimo the Italian Restaurant

Ultimo is an Italian restaurant in Seminyak, Bali and it was ranked #11 in Tripadvisor. We went here in 2009 with our friends, the place basically on the hottest spot in Seminyak near Rumours and other famous restaurants. We had to wait quit long just to be seated, there's bar area and it was also already packed with people. So, we just looked around their menu that was put in front of the restaurant and surprisingly it wasn't as expensive as we thought, comparing with the price in Jakarta.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, the light was dim, and although it was crowded by people but still relaxing and cozy. We choose part of the restaurant that was open air and when it was started to rain, they had the automatic roof which was very interesting.

So, maybe we will consider to go here again because last time we went here it was great!

Cafe Asix (Again!)

After trimming our hair (both of our hair :D). We were kinda confuse on where to eat. After circling around the block, we decided to eat at Cafe Asix, as the place was close to our barber (actually the barber was in the same building with the cafe). Instead of the usual pizza, we ordered the baked rice and various snacks, and it was quite good. The rice was baked in the same oven with the pizza, and when eaten, it has distinctive smoky flavors coming through. Alia ordered the Cikur Fried Rice, and I have to say the Cikur was a great touch.

If you are confused with all of the new eating place in Burangrang/ Talagabodas/ Banteng/ Buahbatu area, then Cafe Asix can become an alternative for you to eat.

Buon divertimento!

Breakfast at Warung Pasta

While waiting for Alia at Sunday's Car Free Day event, I've decided to continue my work on one paper which is due on Monday (just another day of a PhD student). Since I'd be needing a power outlet, while in ITB (especially in Architecture) freely power outlets are rare to find, Warung Pasta become the closes alternative to go.
They served a breakfast menu which consisted of one main course and drink for the price of Rp 15rb. For main course, you can choose between pasta, pizza, pancake or parfait, while for drink you can choose between coffee, chocolate, or tea. I've decided to go with the Lasagna + Cappuccino combo.
For that price I got to say it is pretty affordable, and you can have a hearty breakfast. So Enjoy!

L(br)unch at Kitchenette

That day Aswin and I were going to Jakarta because Aswin had an appointment with someone at Plaza Indonesia. So, I was waiting for Aswin until he finished the meeting and also took Jum'at prayer at Kitchenette. I was planning to go here, but I guess that day I had the chance to enjoy sitting at one of their chair and look at the passer by. It was the place meet the concept to see and to be seen. I think I was going there around 10 am, so the place quite empty because from what I've heard this place always packed with people, especially on meal time.

So, I ordered hot cappucino and the infamous red velvet cupcake, but too bad they didn't have any yet, so I picked red velvet whoopie pie. I decided to order lunch after Aswin got back for Jum'at prayer. Like I expected the coffee taste great and the pie...superb. I also like the interior of the restaurant, I guess that's why many restaurant in Bandung, such as Le Marly and Sugar Rush -the one we currently visited- are copying their interior. It looked like vintage kitchen. The service also great, considering of the price, I guess with the price like that they should have great service. Well, they even had a bag for my bag, so the bag wouldn't get dirty and I wouldn't be sitting while holding my bag on my lap.

When Aswin came around 1 pm, it's definitely like what I heard, the place was full. In the right side of my table there were 6 children with their parents and two baby sitter and at the back of my table I think they're people who were working in this are took their lunch. So, I guess it was right decision to stay here early.

I ordered their galettes, the savory crepes and it was their specialty, kind of forget of the name. I think there were cheese, beef bacon, and potato chips, what I remember is the price, around Rp. 60.000,- well quite expensive for crepes. But the crepes was huge and taste awesome, well comparing to what I had in Le Marly, for the price like that if the galettes not good I think I will smack the chef on the head...kidding. Aswin picked homemade mac & cheese for his lunch and some tea with fruit on a jar for his drink. I tasted the mac & cheese and that's what I called mac & cheese, the taste of the cheese was delicious. I think they used good quality of parmesan and cheddar cheese.

Cute detail on the floor

Well, it was time to pay and yup...the lunch cost us Rp. 250.000,- Well, comparing to the price of the food in Bandung, the price kind of high. Of course, don't compare it with the Valley in Bandung, with the same price, Kitchenette had more in quality. But, I really would like to come here again maybe with someone treating us. *evil smile*
