Baso Bintang Avon, Buah Batu, Bandung

Disclaimer: We love noodle!

With that in mind, we present you: Baso Bintang Avon. For us, we believe that this vendor can be considered as one of the best Yamien vendor in Bandung. The broth is not quite thick, as Akung, but it is certainly not as mild as Sam's.

So, if you are happened to be in the southern area of Bandung, and need a quick snack or lunch or dinner, then this is the place to go.

Enjoy!

Woontoon Pork Noodle (Contributed Article by Ruben Juliarto)

This posting is contributed by Ruben Juliarto, our beloved friend and regular contributor for Jejak Rasa. Thank you and look forward to hear about your next article contribution bro!

I bought woontoon noddle pork near Ayutthaya train station before I
left Ayutthaya for Nongkhai. The price was 35 Thai Bath or about 1 US
dollar. The noddle was served with woontoon, sliced roasted pork,
vegetable and radish. I thought that 1 US dollar was not too expensive
for one bowl of woontoon noddle becuse I got a lot of woontoon and
roasted pork. Before I eat it, I poured nampla (fish sauce) and
grounded peanuts. Enjoy my dinner before night train ride.

Padthai on Hatyai, Thailand (Contributed Article by Ruben Juliarto)

This posting is contributed by Ruben Juliarto, our beloved friend and regular contributor for Jejak Rasa. Thank you and look forward to hear about your next article contribution bro!

My Thai friends brought me to restaurant for dinner. It was on Hatyai,
Thailand, near Malaysian border (Bukit Hitam). Well I let my Thai
friends decide what to order, and they agreed to order "patthai" or
mee goreng in Malay or fried noddle translated to English.

So let see what the restaurant served for three of us who were hungry
and thirsty. (please see attachment)
  • three cups of ice, plus glass bottled mineral water.
  • fresh raw vegetables/ salad which were served with ice on it
  • patthai or fried noddle.
Mee goreng were served with shrimps. For condiment, we could choose
white sugar, salty soybean sauce, grounded peanuts, pepper, and nampla
or fish sauce. I poured 3/4 spoon of fish sauce, and my Thai friend
said that I dropped too many fish sauce. I didn't regret it because
nampla is not too fishy or salty. I could taste the freshness of fish.

I do hope someday I visit Hatyai once more and eat patthai again.

Let's Get Nostalgic: Warung Lela

Warung Lela has always become our favorite noodle vendor in Bandung since our college time. But since the location is quite far from where we lived, we have not visited them as often as we liked.

So, when the opportunity appeared, we took our time to visit the restaurant.

The food menu in overall are still the same. The noodle is still tasted great. And their pangsit goreng is as delicious as the last time we tried them.

In overall: it is (still) worth the trip. Enjoy!

New Ramen Restaurant in Bandung: Hakata Ikkousha

There is a new Ramen Restaurant in Bandung called Hakata Ikkousha. The place has been here for a while, and it was hyping!

Our sister-in-law and our cousin has already visiting the place before, and both of them give their seal of approval. So, when the time arrived, we anxiously visited the place.

The restaurant location is quite hidden, and you probably missed it if you don't look carefully. The outlet was the place for a restaurant called plate for me before becoming Hakata Ikkousha.

The restaurant is actually a franchise restaurant, with branches already opened in Surabaya and Jakarta. The branches outside of Bandung serves pork and lard, while the one in Bandung does not serves pork menu. This system is already implemented by another famous ramen restaurant to target wider audience.

The ramen taste quite okay, with distinction of thicker broth. Their chicken karaage tasted superb and they have their signature spicy garlic as their condiment.

Overall dining experience is great, and we cannot wait to visit them again soon.

Enjoy!

Bakso Miskam, Bandung

Since we returned to Bandung in early 2010, the price of Mie Bakso strangely has skyrocketed over the years. If it was a stock, and we invested there, we might be rich by now :).

So we were excited to find that there is one new branch of Mie Bakso that offers delicious noodle and meat balls, but with affordable price and good quality. The other main plus side is: It is located conveniently near where we lived! :)

The Mie Bakso tasted more lighter. It also goes the same with the broth. It is more lighter compared with other famous Mie Bakso stand all around Bandung. The overall experience was great, and with easier-on-the-pocket price, it is a bargain for us!

Enjoy!

Langkawi (Culinary) Trip in April 2013: Bakmi Gajah Mada Terminal 3, Soekarno Hatta

For our post-graduate study requirements in our school, we are assigned to write a paper and present them in an International Conference. As both of us missed the opportunity to attend a conference in Hanoi back in March 2013, we decided to submit our papers to this conference in Langkawi, Malaysia.

As there is no direct flight to Langkawi from Bandung, and considering the current confusing state of Husein Sastranegara Airport, plus as Alia got a good deal of flight price from Mandala Airlines, we decided to go to Langkawi using two flights. First we will fly from Soekarno Hatta to Kuala Lumpur using Mandala Airlines, then continued with flights from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi using AirAsia in the same day.

As our flight takes place on Friday at 07.30 AM from Soekarno Hatta, we went from Bandung using Prima Jasa services at 01.30 AM. Reaching Jakarta at around 04.30, with time to spare (and with accidents of stopping at the wrong terminal -__-"), we decided to pray and then have our breakfast first.

There are not too many option available for breakfast in Terminal 3, and as we will endure a connecting flight, we thought: we should eat something heavy like rice or noodle. After scouting around, we decided to eat at Bakmi Gajah Mada (Bakmi GM).

We ordered their signature Bakmi GM with some meatballs. Too bad they don't serve their signature Iced Tea. After breakfast, we are ready for our trip to Langkawi. Woo Hoo!

Will posted about our culinary trip in Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur in a couple of days. We hope you will enjoy them!

Enjoying Original Korean Fried Chicken at Myeong Ga Restaurant

One thing that we missed during our last trip to Korea, is trying their original fried chicken. After we returned to Bandung, we have made the search to find the best Korean fried chicken as one of our obsession.

Searching ups and down. left and right, we came to visit this place: Myeong Ga Korean Restaurant. We are very familiar with their branch in Papaya, but never ever tried their main branch in Jl. Prof. Sutami.

The place is very well designed. When we entered, a similar feeling begin to come to us, as we entered a restaurant during our trip to Nami Island and Seoul. The greetings of "hwan-yeong" are said by the waitress here. The traditional dress by the waitress. The calm and relaxing ambiance. And even the guest are mostly Korean.

As our main purpose is to try their fried chicken, then we quickly ordered their fried chicken, 2 bowl of rice, Jjajangmyeon , Mango Juice and Aloe Vera drink. While we are waiting, we are served appetizers of kimchi, fried tofu, mushrooms, and other delicacy. Also, when we ordered, we got free flow of Korean tea, just like we experienced back in Korea.

When we faced the serving, we are amazed with the size. It should be enough to served up to four people! Wow, amazing!

The chicken tasted very good. A combination of familiar breaded fried chicken, but with an Asian twist. Yum! The noodle also tasted delicious. Happy tummy and happy face.

And for a while, we feel like returning to Seoul again.

Enjoy!

Enjoying Rendang Noodle in Mangkok Ayam

In our last post, we discussed about how Burger and Rendang has easily entered the list of our most favorite food. S

So, what about Bakmi (Noodle) and Rendang? Does it mixed well together?

...

Well it turned out it mixed very well. Especially if you are a huge fan of spicy food. Then this should be on your list when traveling to Bandung.

Yum!

South Korea (Culinary) Trip in November 2012: Udon near Incheon Airport

Just like I said in the earlier post, even though we already had breakfast in the plane, I was still a little bit hungry. Well, who couldn't resist some udon with clear broth, which was perfect for such cold weather. The noodle was tasted fantastic, even though for some Indonesian it was kind bland. But Aswin and I like it, the broth tasted good, and it certainly conclude that morning.

Well, I search the name of the place in the internet, but I found nothing. But, I think this place is  for tourist because later before we went back to Indonesia on the way to the airport we stopped at this place again and at the other part of the building there also souvenir shop.

Lunch Date at Sumber Hidangan

On the way to campus at lunch, we are planning to try and eat in one Ramen vendor at Braga street. It turned out, the place was fully booked, and we need to wait for reservation before we can eat there.

Hungry and running out of time, since we are in between meeting, we decided to have our lunch at one of the oldest restaurant in Bandung: Sumber Hidangan. The place usually has very irregular business hour (we suspect because the attendances, who are also quite old, sometimes take siesta moment :D), but luckily it was open when we went there.

The place was surprisingly quite full, with some young customers (our conspiracy theory suggest that they might be like us: hungry-and-bored-waiting-for-reservation-in-the-previous-restaurant), and some age fitted customers having their lunch there.

I ordered their Burger and Alia ordered their fried noodle (now you know who wanted to eat Ramen :p). For dessert, we could not resist the temptation of their signature Marasquino (Rum) flavored Ice Cream. Very delicious and it completely render our previous craving on Ramen to none ^_^.

Enjoy!

Kedai Ling-Ling Jalan Sukajadi Bandung

This is one of the vendors already been around in Bandung, but yet we have not tried it before. So when they opened a new location in Sukajadi area, we quickly goes there and try.

The place was fully crowded. No wonder, as to celebrate their soft opening, they give 30% discount for food and beverages, not bad eh?

We ordered their ramen and es kriuk (fruit flavored jelly with syrup) and it tasted ok. Also with their big portion it guaranteed to fill your tummy for the whole afternoon.

Enjoy!
