(Ubud) Bali Culinary Lists: Warung Ijo and Putri Minang, the Halal Food

Quick Information, if you are looking to find halal food in Ubud, these two vendor can be the option. Warung Ijo is owned by Muslim family from Makassar, while the Putri Minang is Bukittinggi (not just ordinary Padang cuisine vendor). Both of them tasted great, and if you are staying in Ubud it is quite difficult to find halal food vendor, so this can become your alternative.

Lumpia Basah "Arie" Batununggal

One of the traditional food that we enjoy since our childhood is Lumpia Basah. It is basically a twist of Spring Roll that usually can be found in Vietnam, China, or other Asian countries. Basically it is a super sized spring roll with the fillings of bengkuang, bean sprouts, scrambled egg, glued with tapioca and brown sugar paste, and finally wrapped with spring roll (usually two) skin. This savory food is best tasted during lunch up to afternoon, and if you prefer, you could add some chili to give some dimensions to the food.

The lumpia basah vendor is decreasing over the years, and currently only handful can be found in Bandung. Some of the prominent places including in: Pasar Tong Tong CiWalk, in front of Griya Buahbatu, and our favorite place is this vendor, Arie Lumpia Basah at Batununggal Supermarket. So the next time you are around Batununggal, be sure to visit his outlet. In exchange for Rp 7.000,- (US$ 0,7) you can get a hearty meal.

Gado-Gado Tengku Angkasa

We drove here after we are finished delivering document to Immigration for Alia's Dad and along the way to ITB campus. We are kinda bit full at that time, and gado-gado came across our mind as alternative for lunch that will not make you sleepy :).
When we reached the place, it was fully packed, but we've managed to grab some seats. The ordering system there is quite a bit confusing at first, but we managed to talk to one of the waiter to serve us two plate of gado-gado, one iced tea with sugar, and one plain iced tea.
The gado-gado was alright, and to be honest, their portion is a bit too big for us. But, it was a bowl of vegetable, so we think it is OK :).

Is It Rainbow Cake? at Mrs. Fields, Summarecon Mall Serpong

Is it rainbow cake?

I think this bakery vendor, Mrs. Fields® which we found in Summarecon Mall, decided to have their rainbow cake with no vibrant color we often saw. Their rainbow cake had pastel color with only three color with green, white and pink. So, why they called it rainbow cake? And the verdict for their rainbow cake...mmm...I think I'm not their biggest fans, for us it is just an Ok, also the price not too expensive like other rainbow cake in Jakarta, it's only Rp. 25.000,-

But the bakery seemed convincing, they sold various cakes including muffins and cupcakes, also cookies and coffee, that's why we eager to try the cake. Well, the store actually a famous cookie and baked goods store from United States which has been established since 1977. But, as we browsed through their website, I think their specialty are the cookies.

Well, the place kind of great for hangout with friends and gossiping while sip a cup of coffee and shared a slice of cakes.

Enjoy!

The Kiosk Highland Market: Not-So-New Branch

Have you had Kiosk-ing today?

The Kiosk is opened their new branch at Balubur Town Square or just call it Baltos, which we think the building is rather out of the place. They built the wrong kind of building on the wrong area.
I mean Balubur used to be rows of shops that sold stationery and on the behind of that you can find traditional market and because of the construction of Pasupati Bridge, they tore down the place and vacated themto the land near jalan Gelap Nyawang and after the bridge was finished, they started to build a new building to caters old and new tenants. But I guess the strategy was kind of wrong because after the building was opened till now the building still have many empty kiosk.

So, they tried the new strategy, because Bandung is famous for its culinary, they started gather  restaurant to open their branch here like The Kiosk Highland Market and the most recent one was Hoka Hoka Bento and I didn't know why Ace Hardware also ended up opening their branch at this building last week.

Back to The Kiosk Highland Market....
"Find the Food Court Sensation with European Mountainous Atmosphere"
That is their tag for this branch, so you will feel like in one of European mountain but of course the view most likely the high density settlements on Cikapundung waterfront area. But, I give thumb up for their interior decoration, it is good and relaxing and not like other branches which is too hectic and chaotic. That's why they also opened library with books mostly contain novels and manga for rent in their mezzanine area. And these are the list of the vendors you can find in The Kiosk Highland Market:
  • Nasi bakar Cimandiri,
  • Gado-gado Teuku Angkasa
  • Warung Nasi Raosan
  • Nasi Liwet Jambal Roti
  • Nasi Jenggo Bali Kembar Sari
  • Nasi Bambu Nambu
  • Nasi Gudeg Banda
  • Soto Bandung Soto Po
  • Warung Donburi & Ramen
  • Bebek Van Java
  • Konro Bakar Mekar Subur
  • Bubur Jalaprang
  • Mie Kocok Kebon Jukut
  • Pempek Rama
  • Batagor Abun
  • Ketan Bakar Lembang
  • Baso Tahu Sin Sien Hien
  • Tahu gejrot Pak Raden
  • Pancake Regallo
  • Yoghurt Si Emooh
  • Cuppajoe
  • Es campur Mang H. Ondo
I guess there's a lot of new vendors in this branch, they also had Ramen and Pancake. By the way, Aswin ordered gado-gado Teuku Angkasa, it is one of the famous gado-gado vendor in Bandung even since 12 years ago maybe more. I just ordered es campur because I already had lunch.

Actually, Aswin left his bag at The Kiosk and we just found out later after we drove out the parking area and Alhamdulillah their staffs are honest, they keep the bag at the receptionist and nothing missing. So, that's great and keep the good service!

The place never bored us and the price won't rip you off. Enjoy!

Lunch at Bumi Sangkuriang

It's been a while since we go to Bumi Sangkuriang, and all the sudden during our parents 33th anniversary, Mom's decide to visit Bumi Sangkuriang. Yay!

The place was thankfully quite empty. Usually it's packed either for wedding, reunion, or study tour.

There's one group of Elementary students from Al-Azhar Jakarta who goes here to do an outing, but they do not crowding the place.

Back to the place, they have a restaurant called Concordia. They usually serves Indonesian and Western Foods. The one that is quite unique from them is that their menu is the same, but their display and taste usually changing. We always thought it was because of the chef.

Today, we ordered their signature menu: the bitterballen, the pinacolada, and their iced coffee legoisiae. For main course we ordered the Rib Eye Steak and other dishes.

While Ahyar and Ia wasn't quite fond with their dishes, me on the other hand quite satisfied. They serves the steak medium, which are very unusual for restaurant, as they prefer to make it well done, due to health concerns.

Their display of bitterballen, pinacolada and iced coffee legoisiae are very much different with the last time we visited here. But, the taste is quite similar.

Hopefully the next time we go here, their taste is similar like today.

Enjoy!
