Jakarta (Culinary) Trip in June 2013: Bakmi Gang Kelinci Pasar Baru

We are big fans of Mie. Either cooked with broth to become a Mie Ayam/ Mie Baso/ Bakmi, or saute with vegetables to become Mie Goreng/ Kwetiaw Goreng/ Ifu Mie. All of Mie is yummy for us.

However, some Mie stands out among the others. Legendary places are scattered all around Indonesia, and today, we are lucky to be able to visit one of the Legendary mie vendor: Bakmi Gang Kelinci.

Tucked in a small alley called (obviously...) Gang Kelinci, the restaurant offered traditional noodle-based dishes consisted of Mie Ayam, Fried Noodle and Siomay.

The portion is adequate. The taste was great. And the most important part: we managed to tick one of our bucket list of visiting legendary noodle vendors all around Indonesia. Yay!

Enjoy!

Bangkok (Culinary) Trip in July 2012: Bakso Ino, Terminal 3, Soekarno Hatta Airport

If you are a foodie, just go to Bangkok. This city is heaven. There's an array of restaurants from street foods to fine dining.

It was our second time came to Bangkok and last time we had great time here. The memorable Crepes & co, the amazing Sirocco and the interesting Khaosan Road. So, it was our plan since last year to attend the Conference that was held in this city, that's why we're so excited and couldn't wait to go. So, on first and second day Aswin had to attend the Conference while I was going to Ikea and Chinatown. Then, on the third day we're planning to go to Asoke and Thong Lo area, while our last day we planned to meet with our friend, Monike.

So, enjoy our next posts which told the story of our travel in Bangkok through the foods.

...

It's our first day trip to Bangkok. Both of us were excited and exhausted. Early in the morning we are attending the Munggahan (family gathering before fasting month begin) for our Lengkong family from 07.00-09.00 am, and straight away at 09.00 we have to go to Primajasa (shuttle bus services) that will takes us to Soekarno Hatta Airport.

When we got to the Terminal 3, we are amazed with their minimalist and green concept design of the terminal, and somewhat confused, as the food vendor there is unfamiliar to us. After a bit of consideration, we've decided to choose between Bakmi GM and this vendor, Bakso Ino. Bakmi GM turned out to be very crowded, so the option finally sets for the Bakso Ino.

We ordered the rice dishes (Alia choose the Ayam Kremes, I choose their Seafood Fried Rice, with shrimps goes to Alia), because we still have almost 5 hours waiting + trip to Bangkok (it turned out the flight was delayed for 1,5 hours, making us wait for 6,5 hours).
The food was OK, and it's definitely makes into a handful of option being provided in the terminal.

Enjoy!

Six Layers Color of Happiness: Rainbow Cake at Disini Bakery

Based on TermWiki, rainbow cake is a confection made with layers of brightly colored, almond-based sponge cake, apricot and/or raspberry jam, and a chocolate coating.

After a while finally we were able to try the famous and currently trendy Rainbow Cake at Disini Bakery. We already upload the picture in the twitter, and the comments being generated was phenomenal. Most of them really like to try the cake, and some of them who have tried it says that this was the most neat Rainbow Cake that they ever seen. And for the price of Rp 24rb/ slice (around US$ 2,5/ slice) it was considered as a bargain. Enjoy!

Bakso Semar, Bandung

Bakso Semar, Bandung. Finally an alternative for noodle & meatball soup lover in Bandung. This Bakso Semar is supposedly already being famous for quite some time, with their 2nd branch in Jl. Cihampelas always flocked with customers. However, gratefully the decided to open their 3rd branch in Jl. Karapitan in front of Langlang Buana University.
What makes this noodle & meatball soup different is that their main ingredients is made from the rib part of a cow. It supposedly makes their taste richer and bolder.

Bakso Wonogiri, Taman Jajan BSD

When we go to BSD to visit our house, sometimes we are confused with the simplest questions "What are we going to have for lunch?". And in this particular day, the question did arise again. The first idea that we are having (actually Alia's) is perhaps we should have Es Podeng and Es Doger for dessert. And the best place to have it in BSD is at Taman Jajan (the story will be told in separate blog post). So, there we are at Taman Jajan, strolling to see what to eat. There we finally decided that we should try the Bakso Wonogiri.

My Trip to Malang #3 (Contributed by Ruben Juliarto)

This current publication is contributed by Ruben, one of our close friend at SBM-ITB. This is the third part of his trip to Malang. Enjoy!

Baso Bakar
Sunday, I had to return home from Malang. The time to leave was three o'clock afternoon so I could walk around Malang before the train leaves. The plan for that day was to visit Pecel Kawi and Baso Bakar.

Pecel Kawi place is located at Kawi Road, not far from Ijen Boulevard. Ijen Boulevard was the widest road at Malang, has two opposite-direction lanes, and also provides two wide pedestrian lanes where you can stroll around looking for Old Dutch house. I always thought that there is nothing more relaxing than strolling around at morning times.

Bakmi Nongkrong & Mie Tolol

After one of our favorite vendor at BEC food court is closed, we have been in a constant search for a new food spot in that food court. After several visits there, at one time me and Ruben goes there to find something to eat. Then a vendor quickly attracts my attention.
