Snack Gifts from Malang

Another gift set from our lovely sister-in-law who has conference in Malang. This time she brought the Lapis Mandarin and Pia.

The Pia is particularly tasted different from regular pia that we used to consume. It is the tangkwee flavor that probably makes the difference.

Gift From Malang: Manisan Nangka & Rambutan

As we mentioned quite often in our blog, one of the reasons why we love having a large family pool, is we often get treats from families when they visit other places. And today is similar.

Our nice sister-in-law, who just got back from a conference in Malang City, have bring us these nice snacks: Manisan Rambutan and Nangka. For those of you not familiar with Manisan, it is a preserved fruit snack that often being found in several cities all around Indonesia. The most famous ones comes from Cianjur city, with Salak and Mango often being the most like able fruit to be preserved.

So when we found that Rambutan and Nangka (Jack Fruit) are also able to be made into Manisan, we are excited. The taste itself is quite nice.

Baso Bakar

Sunday, I had to return home from Malang. The time to leave was three o'clock afternoon so I could walk around Malang before the train leaves. The plan for that day was to visit Pecel Kawi and Baso Bakar.

Pecel Kawi place is located at Kawi Road, not far from Ijen Boulevard. Ijen Boulevard was the widest road at Malang, has two opposite-direction lanes, and also provides two wide pedestrian lanes where you can stroll around looking for Old Dutch house. I always thought that there is nothing more relaxing than strolling around at morning times.

Saturday at Malang, I was tired as hell after the Bromo tour. I saw the sunrise at Penanjakan. From Penanjakan I also saw the fog which covered the sea of sand at the bottom. Next destination was Bromo crater, where I took more than 300 steps of stair to get to the top.

I went to Malang last month to attend a conference, so I had the best time to explore this small town. This town is famous for old colonial building, as we can see from the train station as soon as we arrive there. FYI I took the train as my mean transporation to get there, and it took one night from Bandung to Malang.
