Another Sushi Joint: Sushi Tora at Riau Junction & Trans Studio Mall

After visited site of our current interior project. I was quite hungry because I only ate oatmeal for breakfast and lunch. And Aswin went to Jakarta to do some errand. So, what to eat? I was thinking about healthy food in Toko Kehidupan, which Aswin does not quite like, but I guess the traffic rather awful, so it lead me to Riau Junction instead. I was thinking about Myeong Ga or maybe Kopi Scooter, but after I was there. Suddenly, sushi come to mind and I've been craving for sushi for days. So, I was curious about this one sushi stall in Riau Junction, Sushi Tora. I end up ordered for spicy salmon roll, aburo maguro, and cold ocha. It cost around Rp 50.000,- Surprisingly the sushi was extremely good, it was so fresh, and me like it! Well, I found another sushi place which isn't so crowded (yet) with people.

Sushi Origami Ganesha

Another sushi stand in our beloved city. I guess Bandung people will never run out of creativity and ideas on opening a business venture here :).
This sushi stand is opened in Jalan Ganesha, near ITB (in front of Warung Pasta). The stall is quite minimalist. Pickup car which doubles as food truck.
It serves sushi and many other Japanese food, and price wise is quite suitable for ITB college students (notice that I didn't use the word "affordable" here).
And the interesting part is that they also available for catering service. Hmmm... Quite interesting. Maybe we can use it sometimes, let say for a Lebaran or other Holiday festive perhaps?

Enjoy!

Bali (Culinary) Trip in July 2012: Ryoshi Japanese Restaurant in Kuta

It was our last night in Bali, actually at 9 pm we had to go the airport for our flight to Bandung. After we checked out from the hotel, we spent out last hours in Kuta area since it was closed to the airport and we can see many places by walking.

Well, actually we already had our late lunch at Dijon. So, after we hang around at Discovery Mall to watch the sunset and also some music and dance performances in the event called KOMPAK!, company social responsibility (CSR) done by PT. Semen Gresik, we decided that it wasn't holiday in Bali if we didn't go to Ryoshi.

Ryoshi is Japanese restaurant, which we could only find in Bali. At first, we went here couple years ago, when we even not considerate as foodie. We found Ryoshi when we strolled around the area and thinking that the place was cute, we should try it. Well, after a while my friend who reside in Bali told us that it was quite famous restaurant in Bali and the sushi were good. Yeah, we thought that too, the place was nice and the food was great. We fallen in love with Ryoshi at that time.

When we came here last time, Ryoshi was small place on the upper side of Batan Waru Cafe and the place just looked like restaurant that we saw in Japan from television. So, this time we found out that it was being renovated and the place more spacious, it has outdoor seating area. While the building was simple but somehow it still had Japanese atmosphere. It has unique design.

We ordered small portion, just salmon skin roll, yakitori, with one rice set for both of us and the drinks were hot ocha and cold ocha. Well, they still serving great sushi after all this time and place that you can't missed out when going to Bali.

Dinner with Alex and Christa at Gourmet 90

On one night, our Dad is being visited by his colleague, Alex from Holland. So to honor his visit, he decided to arrange a dinner with several of Dad colleagues and Alex friends. We are invited because one of Dad's student from Holland, and one of our friend, Christa is invited.
Gourment 90 is selected because it serves mixture of Eastern (Japanese) and Western food. It also chosen because of the coziness of the place.

Unlike other nights, the place was quite empty when we go there. We assume that it was because the pizza bar located upstairs was closed. Luckily, the menu of Gourmet 90 are not affected. Most of us ordered the steak, pasta, and Japanese food. There are two dishes that are standing out from the crowd. The first one is the Salmon skin appetizer. It tasted quite unique, and honestly it was not for everyone's taste preference. The second one is what Alia ordered. The Dynamite Roll. Imagine a regular dynamite roll, then pumped and juiced with steroid to reach almost 10x times of it's original size? That is the Gourmet 90 infamous dynamite roll hehehe...

After this, we admit that we are curious to try the other Japanese foods on the menu. Maybe on our next visit.

One day suddenly craving for a Bala-Bala/ Bakwan. But considering that we are on a dietary program, we decided to create one.

The ingredients are:
Cabbage, shredded
Carrot, shredded
Salt
Pepper
Flour
Soda water
Eggs
Olive oil (you can use vegetable oil)

To cook this, simply mixed the cabbage, carrot, salt, pepper, flour and eggs into a bowl. Mix well. After that heat a pan and add the olive oil. Place one spoon of the mixture into the pan and fry them for several minutes until golden brown.

Azuma @90 Gourmet, Jl. Riau Bandung

After several times of planning and re-planning to go here, and many cancelled trips or detours, finally we are visiting the 90 Gourment at Jl. Riau, Bandung. The reasoning of the cancelled trips varies, but mostly is due to the unavailability of parking space, and long line of waiting list.
Today, on my dad's 60's birthday, finally we can go here. Too bad Ahyar, Ia, and little Dimas could not make it here. Fortunately, the place is quite empty (although the parking space is still a big issue). The restaurant itself consisted of three main restaurants: Azuma, Cherry Blossom and Patio. Azuma serves Japanese food, Cherry Blossom serves Western food, while Patio is more like Italian restaurant with a bar on their balcony. Azuma opens with regular time, while Patio closes a little bit late (around 12 PM). They also have a cupcake store in the front area called Butter Cream.
We go and try to eat at Azuma. The interior and decor are outstanding. Very detail and clean. The food in overall tasted great. Look forward to visit them again in the future. Itadakimashu!
