Yamatoya Japanese Food, BEC

Tori Katsu Kare

This is our second visit to this food vendor in this month. You can tell that we really liked their dish a lot. Today we try their signature Tori Katsu Kare for lunch. Itadakimashu!

I think the Kare was delicious. I means  I've ever tried Kare before in some sort of Japanese cuisine restaurant and they taste blaahh....But the Katsu too dry, I think it was overcooked, but the spice was good and it's only Rp. 22.000,-. Really...this Yamatoya is very affordable.

Mangkok Ayam: The Infamous Mie Rendang

Hot and Spicy Mie Rendang. Love it!
We went here again to accompany one of our friend, Dian who happened to visit Bandung. As she is looking to shop in local Factory Outlets (typical fashion of Jakartanians :D), we recommend her to meet us in Mangkok Ayam. We figure that since she is from Padang, she must have liked spicy food like their famous Mie Rendang.
The place as usual is fully packed (it took us more than 15 minutes to get a seat, and another 15 minutes for us all to seat together).
To our dismay, their famous Mie Rendang spiciness level has been greatly reduced, even for me it is not hot. Although it still tasted delicious, but I believe it has lost it's excitement level.
Maybe in the future they could revamped the menu and considered to bring their famously hot signature dish back. Enjoy!

Kedai Kopi Purnama (Again!)

As we have an inquiries to fix my watch at Jl. ABC. We could not resist the temptation to go to this famous coffee shop. As always, it is fully packed in the morning during breakfast (not to mention it is on Sunday), but it was worth the wait. Now, only we can find other excuse to visit this area in the near future :D. Enjoy!

Homemade Guacamole

We already have the tortillas, but we don't have any dips. So, we decided to go to allrecipes and exercise the guacamole recipe.

Tortilla Chips & Guacamole

Word of Advice: Guacamole is better served and eaten quickly. Otherwise it will become a very unappetizing *learned from my mistakes*

Cafe Halaman Dago, Bandung

Although it is near our campus, but I have not have the opportunity to come and eat here (although Alia already has and will remains her only visit there). So, when my PhD friends, after long briefing from our professors, decided to have lunch, we go there.
Usually the place is packed, and sometimes it is hard to have waitress come and serves us (the reason of Alia's insistence on her only visit), but fortunately today it is not.
So we have our orders, and I tried their smoked beef fried rice. Overall their taste is OK, the same quality with other regular cafe in Bandung. Maybe next time (in weekdays) I'll come over again to try their other dishes. Enjoy!

Lotek Herry Tea

Lotek is a variation of traditional vegetable dish from Indonesia. One of the well known vendor in South of Bandung is this one: Herry Tea. You can find the stall in Jl. Buahbatu, just in front of the Toga Mas Book Store. Enjoy!

Homemade Okonomiyaki

Craving for this Japanese Food, but at that time we could not find any, as we still have not know that Yamatoya (check our previous post) was closing down to be opened in other area in BEC. Coincidentally, as we have our own Japanese sauce (Thanks Anya!), so we decided to cooked it ourselves. The taste? Hehehe... Let's just say it comes out like an Omelette. Need more practice I guess. Itadakimashu!

Believe it or not, but underneath these layers, lays an Okonomiyaki...

Homemade Rum Raisin Pudding

For my upcoming PhD student group meeting, Alia proposed the idea of cooking our own Rum Raisin Pudding to be brought there. So we decided to give it a try. The result was not to be proud of to be honest, as we slightly mistime the baking process, and overcooked it. With fear that the pudding would taste horrible, we reluctantly serves this to the guest (after scrapping all of the overcooked parts). Fortunately it was quite well accepted by them. Enjoy!

Left: the overcooked one. Right: the so-so success one.

XXL Hoagie with Grilled Onion

Inspired with Adam Richman stunts in Man v. Food, and the lack of appropriate sandwich stalls in Bandung,we decided to try and cook the hoagie by ourselves. We can assure you that this wont be our last time cooking this badboy :D. Enjoy!

Homemade Pasta with Beef Gravy

At first the beef gravy was going to be used to make a french dipped sandwich, but we tried to experiment using it as base for our pasta. The result? No so bad, if I could say it to myself :D. Bon Appetit!
