When you go to Bangkok

Actually, this trip was happened two years ago and some of the story I already wrote it in my (other) personal blog-which is now in half hiatus mode-in here. The journey was very memorable for us and we are looking forward to come to this city again. Here are the place you must visit when you go to Bangkok:

Khao San Road

I kind of forget about the name of the place, but I will just write the description that I wrote before in my (other) blog.

Night Life on Khao San Road
Kiosks and stalls along the road

Crepes & Co.

Basically, this is one of the best crepes I (We) ever had, the place kind of memorable and thanks to Novin for taking us there.

Inspired by the constant bombardment of great cuisines from all over the world in our cable TV channel, we decided to cook ourselves some of the dishes that presented there. Alia choose USA as her inspiration, recreating their popular Mac & Cheese dish, while I choose the fusion cooking of Mexican/ USA to recreate the California Style Burrito dish with a twist of my personal Beef Gravy sauce.

Pempek 10 Ulu Pak Anang on Rainy Day

Yesterday, while driving home from campus, we decided to stop by to have some something to eat. It was rainy, so we have the option to go eat baso tahu or pempek. But along the way, we finally decided to eat pempek. Without second thought we stroll directly to our new favorite pempek spot: Pempek 10 Ulu pak Anang. The vendor is located at jalan Veteran, Bandung, and you might missed it if you are driving in a hurry because of their small shop.
Although the vendor is small, but you can always see people come and drop by to taste their pempek. We don't blame them. The taste of their pempek is very good, and we suggest that this is because they use plenty of fresh fish as their main ingredients. Their price is also not quite expensive. For two portion of hearty pempek + drink costs us around Rp 50.000,- (US$ 6). So the next time you find yourself craving for pempek in Bandung, especially in a rainy day, then you can stop by at Pempek 10 Ulu pak Anang.

Big Feast! at Ahyar's House

Last Tuesday we celebrate my brother's birthday. So, deviating from our usual tradition of dining out, we decided to raid his house and brings some of his favorite dish. So as you can see in our picture below, there's quite a feast going on there, and we come home with full tummy :).

Big Feast!

Ketan Bakar in Lembang

Whenever you heard the word "Lembang", the first thing that comes out in your mind besides their cool air, fresh milk, and grilled corn is their famous Ketan Bakar (Grilled Sticky Rice). So when Alia's college friends decided to have a vacation at Ciater area, we make sure that we stopped by in the Lembang market.
Ketan Bakar is actually a savory snack that consisted of grilled ketan rice (sticky rice) with fillings a'la sandwich. Usually there are three types of fillings to go along with: the standard peanut filling, the Oncom filling if you want to add extra spice, and shredded toasted coconut. For us, the gold standard for Ketan Bakar is to have all of those fillings together.
So, the next time you come to Bandung and decided to visit the cool Lembang, be sure to stop by at their traditional market for a taste of Ketan Bakar.

Ketan Bakar (Grilled Sticky Rice)
PS: the price for one ketan bakar is around Rp 5.000 (US$ 0.5). And two of them can substitute your lunch. Pretty cheap right?

Happy Birthday Bro! Thanks for the Nasi Kuning!

Homemade Nasi Kuning (Saffron Rice)
In the tradition of celebrating birthday in our family, we usually cooked Nasi Kuning to be sent to our relatives around Bandung. So, when my brother celebrates his birthday, he sent us Nasi Kuning with all of it's side dishes. Usually Nasi Kuning (Saffron Rice) comes with perkedel (potato fritters), fried chicken, veggies, and kerupuk.
Can't wait to have our next relatives celebrating their birthday.

The making of chicken wings
After a while enjoying their famous chicken wing via delivery service, we are finally be able to go and eat at the location! First, we are there because of the Groupon Disdus promotion, but as the voucher only be able to be used starting next week, then we decided to try the food there.

Basically the menu that they are serving is more on the chicken wings. Besides the chicken wings, they also sells other type of foods such as Taco's, Spaghetti, Pancakes, etc. But for us, their main dish is still their chicken wing, especially the pepper cheese coated chicken wings. Their price is quite affordable too. For a package consisted of one rice, 4 pieces of chicken wings and a lemon tea, you only have to pay around Rp 15.000 (US$ 1.8) while their wings costed around Rp 3.000 (US$ 0.3)/ pcs (cheaper if you purchase above 20 pieces).

So if you love chicken wings, then this is the place to try in Bandung.
