Bali (Culinary) Trip in March 2014: Kura-Kura Bus

For those of you who does not like the idea of taking a bus ride without Air Conditioner and weary with the old bus of Perama Tour, you can choose to take the newly launched Kura-Kura Bus. This new Japanese-Indonesian venture pledged to provide convenient travel service for tourist who like to go around Ubud, Kuta and Sanur but does not want to rely on taxi services.

Currently providing six lines (Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Nusa Dua, Sanur and Ubud), the shuttle service is, in our opinion almost similar with the concept of Hop on Hop off bus that already available in several tourist destination all around the world.

With fares between Rp 10.000 ($1) for Seminyak, Legian and Kuta lines; Rp 30.000 ($3) for Sanur line; Rp 40.000 ($4) for Nusa Dua line; and Rp 70.000 ($7) for Ubud line, this is an affordable choice for you to travel. You can also use their daily pass for traveling experience cross-line.

The bus is equipped with WiFi, Air Conditioner and brand new seats. This is one service that you should try when you are visiting Bali.

Enjoy!

Bali (Culinary) Trip in March 2014: Perama Tour

When you are traveling using backpack method, you will wanted to minimize the budget that you spent, including for transportation. There are several ways for you to save those budgets including renting a motorcycle or renting a small car. The price range is somewhat quite affordable with price for renting motorcycle starts from Rp 60.000 ($6) per day and price for renting a small car starts from Rp 200.000 ($20).

But if you don't ride a motorcycle (like us) or your bungalows cannot afford a parking space (like we experienced right now) there is an easy way for you to travel in backpack style. Taking a bus trip to Ubud from Kuta using Perama Tours.

With affordable price of Rp 50.000 ($5) per person, you can take the bus to Ubud from Legian Street every four hour. The bus quite old, with no AC, but the experience is priceless!

We suggest you tried them as part of your backpacking experience.

Enjoy!

Bali (Culinary) Trip in March 2014: Some Travel Tips From Us...

For this post, we would like to share some travel tips, based on our experience taking the trip to Bali. This post acted more as a reminder for us when we will arrange another trip with similar setting with this trip to Bali. Hopefully some of the pointers that we share here can be useful for you guys out there.

Enjoy!

  1. Prior to traveling, especially first time backpacking, you should open your tablet/ laptop and read some articles from the more seasoned backpacker all around the world. Our favorite article comes from PergiDulu, DuaRansel, and Bootsnall.
  2. Don't bring laptop unless you need them. We prefer to bring tablets or smartphone. Laptop usually weight around 2 kg at the very least, and it will burden you if you are not used to carry backpack.
  3. Only bring one set of everything. For example, we bring two sajadah for praying instead of one. This is still considered to be light, but what if for example you bring two laptops or other heavy objects?
  4. Bring one set of comfortable shoes. A good walking shoes/ outdoor shoes beats fashion every time you are traveling light.
  5. From our experience, unless you have a special requirement for your hair/ body, we suggested you buy your toiletries along the way. This also applies for your flip-flop (or thongs for you Australian :D).
  6. Book in advance. Seems like a no brainer, but it is true. You can get a cheaper price and better place when you book in advance. Some good hotel in Ubud required booking up to six months in advance.
  7. Towels usually already available in your hotel. Bring smaller towel for wiping your sweat during hiking, trailing or walking.
  8. Use plenty of sunblocks (this applies when you are traveling in tropic weather).
  9. Keep hydrated. Bring a bottle of water every time you walk.
  10. GPS is super handy. We practically ditched our travel map and use cell-phone maps.
  11. Get enough sleep. It is not funny when you are having a holiday and you are ill.
  12. Bring Universal Adapter. Preferably with 3-way socket.
  13. Keep you communication line alive (mobile phone, email, instant messaging). We usually separate our holiday email with our work email, so when taking holiday we only activated our holiday email. This becomes handy when the airline/ hotel/ pickup car need a last minute confirmation/ delay. For example, during our stay here, our airline are delayed and they sent us confirmation email two days in advance. If we have not got the news, we might arrive in the airport early and as you fellow travelers know, flight delay sucks!
  14. Smile!

Bali (Culinary) Trip in March 2014: Cafe Dijon

One of the must place to go when visiting Bali.
Determined to have lunch here that we (literally) walked across Sunset Road for 2 KM just to reach this place.
Their food taste and quality is still the same since the last time we visited them. Really worth the walking trip!

Enjoy!

Bali (Culinary) Trip in March 2014: Made's Warung, Kuta, Bali

We arrived in Bali quite early. As we are committed to do this trip with a backpack experience, we decided to walk our way to the center of Kuta, where there is a travel agent called Parama Tour that has hourly operated bus trip to Ubud from Kuta. After we make our booking, we decided to look for lunchtime meal.

Exhausted and quite tired (after all, we have just dragging ourselves walking for around 3 KM from the airport to the central of Kuta), we decided to stopped by and eat at Made's Warung.

Not quite crowded, as it is still considered as brunch time, we ordered the Nasi Goreng Ala Made and Nasi Campur Vegetarian. The portion are huge (especially the Fried Rice), and it helped to refill our energy after a long walk. One particular item from the menu that stands out is their delicious crispy tempe.
After finishing the meal, while waiting for the bus to come, we decided to ordered their Banana Ice Cream Pancake.

Yum! Now, we are ready to heading out to Ubud.

Enjoy!
